WASHINGTON, April 4, 2017– The Wireless History Foundation today named David S. Diggs as the non-profit organization’s President and CEO. Diggs, a twenty-one-year veteran of wireless industry trade association CTIA, succeeds Elizabeth F. Maxfield, who will join the Foundation’s Board of Directors.
“David’s wireless career reaches from the earliest days of wireless to his recent work engaging the newest generation of mobile innovators,” said Wireless History Foundation Board Founding Chairman Arlene Harris. “His first-hand knowledge of the industry’s history coupled with his relationships with today’s innovators will be an invaluable asset to the Wireless History Foundation.”
Prior to joining the Wireless History Foundation, Diggs was Vice President of Wireless Internet Development at CTIA. Previously, Diggs held leadership positions at several wireless carriers. He began his wireless career with Baltimore-based American Radio-Telephone Service (ARTS), which partnered with Motorola to develop the first cellular system to demonstrate the viability of portable, personal communications. The system launched commercially in 1983 as the nation’s first Cellular One network, serving Washington and Baltimore. Diggs is a graduate of Duke University and received his MBA from Loyola University Maryland.
The Wireless History Foundation was established in 2008 by wireless pioneers to preserve the lessons of wireless for the benefit of future entrepreneurs and innovators. Its signature event is the annual Hall of Fame Dinner, which provides public recognition of outstanding individuals across all segments of the wireless industry. This year’s dinner will be held on Sept. 11 in conjunction with GSMA’s Mobile World Congress Americas in San Francisco which runs from Sept. 12-14.
