Andy Rubin

Andy Rubin is a computer programmer, engineer, entrepreneur, and investor most known for his development of the Android OS. He is the co-founder and CEO of both Android and Danger, the maker of Sidekick. He joined Google in 2005 via the acquisition of Android, which under his leadership became the most used operating system in the world. He started Google’s robotics effort with acquisitions such as Boston Dynamics and Schaft. He also built Google’s mobile and digital content businesses and launched products and managed teams responsible for Nexus branded handsets, speech recognition, predictive assistants, music, and movies.

Earlier in his career, Andy worked as a manufacturing engineer at Apple. In the mid-1990s, he led the development of the Motorola Envoy, one of the first wireless PDAs while at General Magic. Andy then helped build WebTV, the first interactive television-based internet service. In 2015 he co-founded the tech startup incubator Playground Global, and became a partner at Redpoint Ventures.

Andy received his Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from Utica College in 1986. Today he is the founder and CEO of Essential Products, a consumer technology products company based in Palo Alto, California.
